Trick or treat?? I will take the trick please..

My house has tons of candy, partly because my husband bought too much candy because he wants the leftovers and partly because my 8 year brought home a bagful herself. So my resistance has to be on high alert not to just have one piece, because it would be a gateway to eating way too much.  Wish me luck!. Things went well today other than the candy...I had a protein bar this morning for breakfast, had a salad for lunch and weight watcher meal for dinner and some Kashi GO lean cereal. for snack while waiting for trick or treaters so I would not be tempted to stray..

Watching Football makes me want to eat...

I am not a huge football fan but we usually watch the game on Sunday.  As my husband sat there eating a bag of Tostitos and Salsa, I found myself wanting to reach over and eat some too...I resisted this impulse by instead having some Kashi Go Lean cereal dry. It was really tasty and filling too.  For lunch I had some carrots and fat free dip also to scare away those urges to eat the chips.   I am chilling now playing on my computer hoping that I am will be able to stave off these urges..

First Weigh In

So it has been a week since I started on this mission and I had my first weigh in today.  I lost 11.5 pounds!! This was just with the changes to my eating habits since I have not started an organized exercise program yet.  I am especially proud since this weight loss was done while I was in Los Angeles having to eat out and having no control on how the food was prepared.  Right now I am planning my strategy for getting through halloween and avoiding the candy that will be in my house due to my adorable daughter.

So let me talk about my daughter for a second, I am so grateful that unlike me growing up she does not have any weight issues.  She is active in sports soccer and dance. In fact she scored 3 goals today.  I love that she does not have to deal with the weight issues that I did when I was kid and she is part of the motivation to get healthy.  I want to be able to help her practice and not be tired or worn out after doing so.  I want to be a good example for her. I am trying to do this the healthy way so I can be a good example for her.

Baby Shower Torture and Airport food....

Today was adventure and struggle but I made it through the other side still going strong.  I had a no fat no sugar blueberry apricot muffin for breakfast. It was pretty good, but what can you expect from no fat no sugar... I was working all morning and then I got the pressure to go to the lunch time Baby Shower for one of the people at work.  Baby Shower is an alias for a reason to have a lot of food.  There was a ton of food all of it high fat, high calorie, tempting food. I went to the smell in the conference room was overwhelming.  I sat there for a little while chatting with some people and at least 10 people did the, "Crystal get some food" and I did the "No I am okay"  I knew in my head that this was a gateway thing for me.  If I gave in a had even a little of this yummy food, there would be no stopping me. I would load up on calories and then all the work I have done this week would have been for nothing.  I snuck out of the party and headed back to my desk and had a protien bar and got a little more work done.  I left work at 3:00 pm to fly home. Once I got through security I still had a hour left until my flight and was hungry so I decided to get something. Usually at the airport, I head for the McDonalds and get a fish filet and drink, but I am making changes right?  Besides McDonalds is my weak spot...I love their fries...So instead I went to a place called "The Creative Crossiant" and got a Turkey Sandwich and Fruit cup.  I paid 3 times as much as I would at McDonalds but I figured healthier food cost more right?  Sadly, this was the worse food I have ever eaten. The roll was so bad that I ended opening the sandwich and just eating the turkey off the sandwich and the fruit cup consisted of the mushiest overripe nasty tasting fruit I have ever had in my life.  If you are ever in the the LAX airport and are thinking about eating avoid the "The Creative Crossiant"  RUN do not walk to another place to eat....Luckily the turkey from the sandwich was enough to hold me over.  I slept on the flight and just got home.  I had a small portion of left over  mash potatoes...I know not the healthiest  but my stomach needed something and I really have not eaten much today and there are not alot choices this late at night.  Tomorrow is my first weigh in, so tomorrow I will posting what the scale says....See you then!

All work and no break makes Crystal a hungry girl!!

So today was one of those crazy busy days..I got to work and had my morning teleconference and then went down to get a scone..Today's flavor Peach-Plum.  Very good! Thank god too because after that I was working straight through the day.  Luckily I had grabbed an apple this morning from the hotel because I was so busy my lunch was the apple and diet Dr Pepper. I was not really hungry all day so it did not bother me. When I finally shut my computer at 5:30 pm and headed to the Hotel my stomach started grumbling.  Okay this is a huge challenge because being hungry I could so just eat my way through a big plate of pasta and still eat a desert.  Instead I ate a protien bar and let that sit for about a half hour then got a salad and grilled salmon. I ate about half the salmon and then as not hungry anymore. Meanwhile my work phone is binging constantly and I do not want to check it...Time to chill out.

There is such a thing as too sweet!!

As I was leaving the hotel this morning, I threw a protien bar into my bar just in case my lunch leftovers from yesterday got thrown away.  I got to work and after my first conference call, headed down for a scone.  The one I had yesterday was really good so I was hoping for a repeat. The flavor today was Strawberry-Banana-Chocolate chip.  I took it to my office and took one bite and immediately knew this was a no go!! It was way to sweet!! So I grabbed the protein bar and ate it on my way to the next meeting of the day. Luckily my sandwich was still there so I had it and the salad for lunch.  Dinner was five grilled shrimp and a crab cake.  Work is one of those places that constantly orders food for meeting. Around 2 they sent out the e-mail about the food in the kitchen.  I went in to get water and saw the tray with sandwiches and cookies.  I looked at them for second and then headed for my desk.  It was just not worth it.

The President Visits and starts my day off stressful...

So the President is visiting LA and when I left for work it took twice as long for my cab to get to the hotel because the secret service was closing the streets around my hotel. I got to work just as my morning conference call was starting.  Once it was over, I was hungry so I headed down to the little restaurant by my office.  They have the best muffins and they are always really good..today's flavor was Blueberry Almond. I decided to not have the muffin and instead I had the low fat, no sugar oat bran scone. It was Strawberry Apricot and really yummy.  I also got a strawberry banana smoothie.  I had to go to a meeting in ED right before lunch and when I got back to the office I decided to get lunch before my afternoon meetings hit. I ordered a grill chicken sandwich and salad. I ate half the sandwich and was not hungry anymore so the salad and the sandwich went in the fridge. Work was busy. we have lots of build to get in before we have a build freeze so I was working steadily all day. At five, I left work and headed back to the hotel.  For dinner, I had a turkey sandwich on whole wheat with avocado and fruit.  The fruit was a yummy desert and great end to the day.  I am now chilling and watching the TV.

Why don't planes have healthy snacks?

So I am in LA this week, so I had an protien bar before I got on the plane for my 5 hour flight. Once I got on the plane I went to sleep as I always do the plane.  I woke up as the flight was ending, so the Flight attendant in first class brought the snack basket over and out of instinct I grabbed a Twix bar. I sat in seat looking at that Twix bar thinking about how good it would taste but I was not hungry. I would just be eating to eat.  So I put that Twix bar in the seat back unopened and drank some water. I wish I had seen a healthy choice in that snack basket like fruit!!  After I got to work, I had a turkey sandwich with cranberry tofunaise and a side salad with oil and vinegar dressing. For dinner, I am having some sashimi.  One the exercise front, I am starting slow soto increase my activity today, I took the stairs instead of the elevator.  It is all about the small steps right.

Do not tell me I can't do it!!

So here is how this how this mission started, I know I need to lose weight and get healthy so being a medical person I went to a doctor for advice and this idiot, yes he was an idiot, says "You just need to face facts you need to have a gastric bypass"  I sat there in shock, thinking you do not know me how can you say this me as I felt transported back to those days when my self-esteem was lower than low.  Listen, I have nothing against bariatric surgery, it is just not something I would consider doing.  Yes, I am over weight but I am not looking for a quick fix, I do not want to surgically alter my body to lose weight. I do not want to affect my body's ability to absorb and digest nutrients naturally.  I have the drive to make a change without such extreme measures.   I walked out of his office and made the committment to myself to prove him wrong. I am going to get healthy!  So my journey begins! I will talk about the challenges that I have along the way and I am sure there will be a few considering I am traveling consultant that lives in a hotel room every other week so I have to eat out alot and when I am home I am busy doing remote work and have a very active daughter that has activites almost every night of the week, which makes eating at home a challenge in itself.  But no one can tell me that I can not do it.  I will get healthy and I will be running in a 5K this time next year.  This will not be a overnight thing, but I will do it!!
